Is there a charge for my initial meeting with Shirley ?
No, even if circumstances require Shirley to attend at your home or in the hospital.
Do I have a case ?
If you feel that someone else was to blame for your accident, there is a good chance that they are. You must also prove that the injuries you have suffered are a result of the accident (or negligence) and not some other cause (such as a pre-existing condition). Always remember that there are time limits within which you must bring your claim or it will be statute barred. But there are also exceptions to these limits so dont put off making enquiries about your claim because the accident (negligence) was several years ago.
Will I have to go to Court ?
If you go to a lawyer who has extensive trial experience, your chances of getting an advantageous out-of-court settlement are much better than if you go to a lawyer who does not do trials.
How long will it take ?
Claims vary on the time it takes to obtain a settlement or an award. There are many variables such as: which insurance company you are dealing with; the extent of your injuries; and the time it takes the doctors to give you a final prognosis regarding your injuries so that all futures losses can be calculated. A very serious case may take 2 or 3 years or longer.
Will I be required to give a large retainer ?
No
What will it cost ?
In most cases Shirley waits until the case settles to be paid (unless some money comes in on your case part way through ). The fee is based on many factors such as: the size of the case; the degree of difficulty; the importance of the matter to you; and the time spent on your case .
